The Open University Open Qualification

The Brief
Long-term client, The Open University, approached us to create an animation to promote the launch of the UK’s most flexible degree course - The Open Qualification.
Concept, Production & Delivery
For this project, we decided with the client that a hand-drawn animation style would lend itself well to the content. This way, the creativity of making scenes transition between one another and showcase that anything is possible, really linked to what The Open Qualification stands for. We scripted the animation from the client brief, went through script re-writes and then designed and created storyboards before sign off. As part of the process, we created concept animatics for client review before animating and added sound design to bring the pictures to life.
The Outcome
Our animation now features as part of the introductory learning experience within The Open University’s OpenLearn course, a key resource used in qualification induction. This course is openly accessible and widely signposted to students beginning their study journey, particularly those enrolling on The Open Degree, one of the university’s largest and most popular qualifications. By integrating the animation directly into this high-visibility resource, the project now sits at a meaningful point of student engagement, supporting thousands of learners as they navigate the foundations of multidisciplinary study.
